Hot for Honeysuckle?

Did you know that there’s a company that actually decides the colour of the year?

It’s a colour they supposedly choose to connect with the ‘zeitgeist’ or ‘spirit of the times’.

The company in question is better known as Pantone and this year, they revealed that Honeysuckle was the colour of 2011.

Their reason: “In times of stress, we need something to lift our spirits. Honeysuckle is a captivating, stimulating color that gets the adrenaline going – perfect to ward off the blues.”

I’ve no idea how this ‘zeitgeist’ is decided but apparently, there’s a lot of research that goes into it.

For spring 2012, they’ve given us a palette of colours to work with and you can BET you’ll be seeing some of these shades in clothing, advertisements, and, probably plastered all over the celebrities.

2012’s spring colours have been chosen because, according to Pantone, “consumers look to spring for renewed energy, optimism and the promise of a brighter day.” According to Pantone’s executive directior, Leatrice Eiseman, it’s all about using colour to alter your mood.

And if you want to find out more, they’ve dedicated an entire PDF to these colours. It’s time to get serious!

Wow! Cool stuff. I think that it is very interesting that ONE company can dictate what the “colour of the year” is. Sound like a bit of a monopoly to me. I like the new colour though! Maybe I will incorporate it into my wardrobe. Hmm, no sure it goes with my skin tone though :)
